End-Point Assessment Requirements
English and maths
Before an apprentice can progress to End-point Assessment, they must have achieved the relevant level of English and maths, as per the requirements of the apprenticeship standard.
Level 2 apprentices are required to achieve Level 1 English and maths.
Knowledge Test
● 60 minute, 30 question, on-demand multiple-choice test
● Externally set and marked by the assessment organisation
● Undertaken either on the employer’s premises or off-site using remote assessment
● Fail or pass grade. The pass mark for the test is 19 and over out of 30
● The test predominantly focuses on non-organisation specific knowledge outlined in the apprenticeship standard such as regulations and laws, cleaning methodologies and techniques, and infection prevention control principles.
Observation with Questioning
● 2-hour assessment to include 1 hour 45 minutes for the observation (+10%) and 15 minutes for questioning of the apprentice in the working environment to demonstrate knowledge, skills and behaviours
● Time may be split into discrete sections held over a maximum of 1 working day
● Shows the apprentice covering a range of tasks across the standard. The observation must include:
a) scheduled cleans (which can include periodic cleaning where appropriate)
b) infection prevention following standard operating procedures including the use of PPE
The tasks observed should be those completed by the apprentice on a daily basis
● Verbal questioning of 15 minutes (following completion of the observation) to clarify observation activities.
● Fail or pass grades based on the achievement of the assessment plan criteria.
Structured Interview Underpinned by Portfolio
● The portfolio should typically contain 10 discrete pieces of evidence to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and behaviours assessed by the interview This evidence can be a combination of product evidence, annotated photographs and specifications, witness testimonies, on-programme observations and recorded question and answers
● The portfolio must be submitted to the end-point assessment organisation at the gateway meeting.
● The structured interview will last for 60 minutes (+10%) and will comprise of a minimum of 15 competence-based questions which focus on evidence presented in the portfolio
● The interview should allow the apprentice to be assessed against knowledge, skills and behaviours that may not naturally occur on a daily basis, or do not lend themselves to direct observation, and how they have applied skills and behaviours
● Fail, pass or distinction grades are available based on achievement of the assessment plan criteria.
