End-Point Assessment Requirements
English and maths
Before an apprentice can progress to End-point Assessment, they must have achieved the relevant level of English and maths, as per the requirements of the apprenticeship standard.
Level 2 apprentices are required to achieve Level 1 English and maths.
Qualifications and On-programme Assessment
In order to reach end-point assessment, apprentices will need to be supported through their on-programme learning by the employer and training organisation in the following elements:
- Early Years Practitioner Qualification (level 2)
- Achievement of English and maths at the appropriate level (Functional Skills or equivalent)
Knowledge Test
- The test will comprise of 40 multiple choice questions.
- Apprentices will have 60 minutes to complete the test.
- The test is closed book (apprentices cannot refer to reference books/materials).
- Set and marked by the end-point assessment organisation.
- The test is graded fail, pass or distinction.
- Undertaken either off-site using remote assessment where appropriate, or on the employer’s premises.
Professional Discussion underpinned by Portfolio
- The independent assessor will review the portfolio and use it to identify areas for the professional discussion – it is not directly assessed.
- The professional discussion must last 90 minutes (+10% at the independent assessor’s discretion).
- The portfolio must be present during the discussion and apprentices will be expected to draw on its contents.
- The professional discussion has fail, pass and distinction grades.
- Webinar or video conferencing software can be used for the assessment.
