End-Point Assessment Requirements
English and maths
Before an apprentice can progress to End-point Assessment, they must have achieved the relevant level of English and maths, as per the requirements of the apprenticeship standard.
Level 2 apprentices are required to achieve Level 1 English and maths.
Knowledge Test
- 75 minute, on-demand test
- 50 multiple-choice questions
- Closed book test (apprentices cannot refer to reference books/materials)
- Set and marked by the end-point assessment organisation
- Undertaken either off-site, using remote assessment where appropriate, or on the employer’s premises in a suitably controlled environment
- 30 out of 50 must be achieved to gain a pass
- 40 or above must be achieved to gain a distinction.
Practical Assessment with Questions
- 3 hour observation of the apprentice carrying out a set task or series of tasks in a simulated environment under controlled conditions
- Must be conducted at the college/provider designated kitchen or the employer’s premises
- A minimum of 6 questions will be asked during the assessment in relation to knowledge and/or skills and behaviours where an
opportunity to observe them has not occurred, or to seek clarification and further coverage - Prior to the assessment, apprentices will be provided with information about the tasks they must complete, including the timescales they will be required to work to.
Professional Discussion underpinned by a Portfolio of Evidence
- The portfolio is completed during the on-programme period of the apprenticeship and must be submitted at the gateway
- The portfolio must contain evidence of the knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) that will be assessed by the professional discussion
- Evidence should be qualitative and each piece of evidence is likely to demonstrate more than one KSB
- Examples of evidence include workplace documentation/records, witness statements, annotated photographs and video clips
- The portfolio will not be directly assessed
- The independent assessor will review the portfolio and use it to identify areas for the professional discussion
- The professional discussion must last 60 minutes (+10% at the discretion of the independent assessor)
- Apprentices will be asked a minimum of 12 open questions
- The portfolio of evidence must be present during the discussion and apprentices will be expected to draw on its contents.
